I've been trying to get my friend Tom to read this for a while now, to no avail. My battered copy of Goodnight Mister Tom has been read so many times, and I'm currently reading it again and I just noticed something I have never noticed before in the approximate 15 or so years since I first read it.
The story of William (or Willie, depending on who is addressing him), who arrives on Mister Tom's doorstep having been evacuated from London just before war breaks out. William is neglected and timid, Mister Tom is gruff and reclusive. But together, of course, they bring out the best in each other.
I absolutely love this title, and would recommend it to anyone. I will give it an A.
