Guerrilla Knitting, Get Caught Reading, Flash Mobs and more!

It's the National Year of Reading and that's a big reason to get involved in some of the special activities we have cooked up to celebrate.
Get your knitting needles out and go undercover with Yarra Plenty Regional Library. We'll be knitting some bookish graffiti and surprising passersby in the local area. Guerrilla knitting, also known as yarn bombing, yarn storming or urban knitting is a type of graffiti or street art that employs colorful displays of knitted or crocheted yarn or fibre rather than paint or chalk. We're looking for keen knitters.

Pull out your camera face and get caught reading. We're looking for photographs of people reading in interesting and unusual places. Be in the running for an e-reader. There's eight to be WON!

Have you joined us on a flash mob yet? We're planning more Big Read Flash mobs in May and July. Sign up at to be in on the secret plans and follow us on Facebook for updates.
That's not all we've got happening for the National Year of Reading.
