Yarra Plenty Regional Library is proud to partner with Banyule, Nillumbik and Whittlesea Councils to participate in 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, a global campaign for gender equality and the prevention of violence against women. The campaign aims to raise awareness of violence against women and the intersecting reinforcing factors such as social isolation, and systemic inequalities like ableism and racism.
The campaign runs from 25 November - 10 December, and we have a number of ways for members of all ages to get involved.
We invite you to a special online Storytime to hear tales about gender equality, respect and healthy relationships at 10am on 28 November 2020 and 5 December 2020. These will be live-streamed on our Facebook page.
At 7pm on Thursday 3 December, you can join local children's book author Nelly Thomas for an online discussion about gender in the early years. Book your free spot via this link before 1 December.
As part of 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, we’re asking you to read books that challenge gender stereotypes and explore respectful, healthy relationships. Gender stereotypes can be limiting to us all and can lead to disrespect and violence. For those looking to discover new books with positive messages about gender equality, or discussing gender-based violence, we've created three lists featuring recommendations for all ages. Take a look!
