Donate Special Items

Christmas is a wonderful time of the year for many people, but for some in our community it is a great financial challenge and worry. The festive season can increase feelings of loneliness, poverty, helplessness, and feeling unseen, and separate from the wider community.  Many families are unable to afford gifts for their children, or a special meal.

We are asking you to help by donating these special items to those in our community who have less than others.

Yarra Plenty Regional Library (YPRL) will have collection bins at all our branches, and we are collecting new toys, and food donations.  The collections are organized by Whittlesea Emergency Relief Network, Diamond Valley Gift Appeal, and Banyule Children’s Gift Appeal, and will be distributed in the local area to families in need.

If you need help at Christmas time, or any time, visit the websites of these organizations.

How can I go about donating?

  • Please leave your donations unwrapped.

  • Toys for any age from 0 -18 years are needed. Gender-neutral toys are helpful, and there is a particular need for presents suitable for teenagers.

  • Gift vouchers are greatly appreciated.

  • Food donations for hampers are most welcome, including chocolates, Christmas bakery treats, or sweets or other ‘treat’ items that can make a meal special.

We can accept your donations from October 28 until December 8.  This leaves time for them to be sorted and given to families!

Thank you for supporting your community at Christmas time.
