Halloween Storytimes For Fun Times

We are not here today to give you a brief lesson on the history of Halloween – we have done that before.

No, we want to celebrate the simple pleasure of sitting down to enjoy storytelling. This can take the shape of fireside ghost tales or snuggling up warm in bed (maybe with a pet!) to ward off the chills brought on by a scary book.

Here are a couple of our picture book recommendations:

Boo! By Margaret Wild and illustrated by Andrew Joyner

Not about Halloween per se, rather the pleasure of invoking a surprised response in others, this rhyming picture book will suit younger audiences with shorter attention spans who will enjoy following along with the antics of the characters.

Kit and Caboodle by Anna Pignataro

An unlikely friendship is struck over Halloween and the deepening, caring relationship between two characters – Kit and Caboodle – is at the heart of this story.

The largely monochromatic illustrations (with pops of red) are in keeping with the theme of the season and are full of charm.

My Dad Thinks He’s a Scream by Katrina Germein and illustrated by Tom Jellett

Rich in vibrant autumnal colours, this latest release in the popular ‘My Dad’ series is a delight – especially if you are a fan of dad jokes, because this book is absolutely crammed with them.

More than that, this is a story of a loving family venturing out at Halloween, creating a special occasion and memories together.

We also love how wonderful it is to be able to share these experiences with others!
