It’s Summer and we are celebrating all things homegrown, homemade and created by you!
When the weather changes we love to get in the kitchen and start making our favourite warm weather dishes. From salads to BBQs to ice-cream, it’s all about the yummies!
The Giant Feast is part of our Homegrown Summer program this year and it’s going to be meal like none other! Everyone is invited to the giant feast that will keep growing every week full of imaginative, sometimes strange cakes created by kids and their adults. Your cake will be inspired by your favourite book, book series or characters. All you need to do is create and bake a cake (the weirder the better!), take a photo of it and we will put it on our Facebook page for everyone to see and taste! Simply:
- Send us a photo of your cake to ypmail@yprl.vic.gov.au with the subject heading ‘The giant feast’.
- Write a few details about your amazing creation including your name, the type of cake you’ve made and what inspired you. We would also love to know the ingredients too!
- Check our Facebook page to see any new creations added to the feast by the end of January.
If you’re looking for some inspiration for what to cook, how about pairing some of our favourite literary feasts with recipes?
For a cake challenge:
“You can do it Bruce!” is one of the most endearing literary moments of all time. Matilda gets the whole school to encourage Bruce Bogtrotter to finish the giant chocolate cake!
Pair Matilda with Easy Cakes.
If you want to continue the literary-inspired cooking extravaganza, try these:
