Google and the Australian Football League launched the artificial intelligence-powered app Footy Skills Lab, which is a free platform accessible from any smartphone with internet connection, a footy, and some space to move.
The launch of the platform came as Google and the AFL teamed up to recognise that every Australian, no matter culture, gender, location, ability, or socio-economic status should have access to sport and community participation.
The platform includes captions and audio prompts throughout for people with hearing and visual impairments.
When an activity is selected, a short video will play. The video features Women’s Australian Football League (AFLW) stars including Carlton’s Madison Prespaskis, Melbourne’s Tayla Harris and Richmond’s Akec Makur Chuot demonstrating and providing some tips on how to complete the activity. Wheelchair AFL athlete Joanna Argaet also adds a Wheelchair movement to perform.
Google’s artificial intelligence can track a football as you perform the movement through your phone’s camera. It will track and rate your performance, present a scorecard that you can share with your friends and family!
