11.00am Wednesday 24 May 2022.
As part of National Simultaneous Storytime, we will be joining thousands of children in libraries, child care centres, schools, kindergartens, homes, and book stores across the country reading the wonderful and delightful picture book, The Speedy Sloth by Rebecca Young. We will also be joined by special storytime guests.
We have events and activities across all of our libraries and we would love to see you and be part of this special occasion. You can find out more about each event on our events page.
About the Book
A book to celebrate all winners…especially those who don’t come first!
The Speedy Sloth is a fun and ridiculously cute story of Spike, a sloth who just wants to run, run, run!
It was finally time for the event of the year, Spike couldn’t believe it — the great race was here! The other sloths said it couldn’t be done, but Spike didn’t care, she was ready to run!
From award-winning creators Rebecca Young and Heath McKenzie.
What is National Simultaneous Storytime?
Held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association, National Simultaneous Storytime (lovingly referred to as NSS) showcases a picture book by an Australian author and illustrator and read simultaneously to children across the country. Each year the book chosen explores age-appropriate themes and addresses key learning areas of the National Curriculum for Foundation to Grade 6.
For 23 wonderful years children have enjoyed a vibrant and fun event which not only encourages children and families to come together as a community and enjoy the wonder of stories but also promotes the value of reading and literacy for everyone of all ages.
