New Virtual Storytime Schedule

YPRL Staff

9 November, 2020

After we had to cancel our in-person storytimes due to Covid-19 restrictions, our storytellers quickly started filming storytimes from home to be shown on our Facebook page for you each week.

Since March we have broadcast three storytimes a day Monday to Friday, as well as special bedtime stories three times a week and a weekend storytime.  We have had special guests in to film storytimes and have commemorated special days with themed storytimes for you.

We would like to thank all the publishers who made their fabulous picture books available for us to continue reading to you over the lock down period. We’ve had a fantastic time keeping this essential program running.

Now with restrictions being lifted and our library staff heading back into branch to be help you in person, we are changing the schedule for our storytimes.  From today until the end of December we will just be showing one storytime a day at 10am on our Facebook page.  We’ll cycle through Baby, Toddler and Preschool storytimes so you won’t miss out on seeing your favourite presenters.

In addition to our Facebook storytimes we are also introducing Interactive Storytime, these sessions will be held using our video conferencing software. We know that kids have been missing the interaction with our storytellers and each other, this interaction is crucial for the development of literacy and social skills in kids as the grow. These sessions will include everything you love about in-person storytime, singing, stories, and an opportunity for your kids to see each other and for parents to chat too. You can book into these sessions via our website.

Also keep an eye out for details of outdoor storytimes which will be happening over December and January.  Due to restrictions on gatherings indoors we can’t do our normal storytimes inside, but we have missed everyone and are looking forward to meeting you all again in person.  These storytimes may take place outdoors at your local branch or in a park or another outdoor area.  Numbers will be limited and social distancing will be required but it will be great to read and interact with everyone again in person.
