Explore. Engage. Evolve.
October is Seniors Festival time. The Victorian Seniors Festival is a month-long program of free or low-cost events and activities for seniors – join in to celebrate your freedom, your curiosity, your wisdom, and your community.
This year’s theme is “Explore. Engage. Evolve.” — encouraging older Victorians to stay adventurous and connected by exploring new activities, meeting new people, and changing how we think of ageing.
The headline event is a Celebration Day, at Federation Square on 6 October 2024. There are also dances at Melbourne Town Hall, and concerts in country Victoria. Over 2,000 other events celebrating older Victorians will be happening all over the state, run by all of Victoria’s 79 local councils, alongside community groups, clubs, and organisations, and, of course, libraries.
Make sure you have your Victorian Seniors Card because there are eight days of free public transport for Victorian Seniors Card holders between 6–13 October 2024.
The Festival also includes the annual Victorian Senior of the Year Awards. These awards recognise and celebrate the talents, achievements, and contributions of older Victorians to their community.
What's on for Seniors in our community?
Throughout the year, Yarra Plenty Regional Library supports and celebrates Seniors in our community by providing friendly, comfortable, and safe places to meet, learn, create, and live well.
But especially in Senior's month we have a cavalcade of events.
These are extra events on top of our usual abundance of Library activities especially for seniors, or that welcome seniors. And everything is free!
We run free Tech-Help sessions for our community, hold conversation and social groups, family history sessions, fitness groups, writing groups, games nights, language learning groups, gardening groups, carer’s groups, and crafty sessions. And the list goes on!
The Events page on our website is the place to look for all of these activities.
Our friendly staff are always here with a smile and a hello and are eager to help you find an event that suits you, or to find just the right book, or DVD, or newspaper, or any of our wonderful resources.
Drop in to your library today for a warm welcome, an engaging event, or a quiet read. Let us help you Explore. Engage. Evolve.
