Throughout November, Yarra Plenty Regional Library will be supporting the Speechies in partnership with Speech Pathology Australia and ALIA.

These talks, which occur annually, celebrate the Book of the Year Awards which recognises Australia’s best books for children’s language and literacy development!

Currently, the 2023 Shortlisted books are advertised on the Speech Pathology Australia website, and we have these books in our branches for you to borrow.

A man and a woman sit on the floor in front of a couch. They are reading to a toddler sitting in the woman's lap.

These ‘must-reads’ for children are reviewed by a panel of experienced pathologists. In conjunction with the Speechie Library Talks and the Book of the Year Award, you can learn more about the vital role speech pathologists play in supporting children’s literacy and language development.

So, visit us during one of our sessions and meet a local speech pathologist. They will be reading of one of ‘Speech Pathology Australia’s Book of the Year’ and find out more about supporting your children’s speech and reading development at home!

The sessions are aimed at parents with 0–5-year-olds and will be run at these branches:

Diamond Valley Library,  Friday 10 November at 10.30am.

Lalor Library, Wednesday 15 November at 10.30am.

Thomastown Library, Tuesday 21 November at 10.30am.
