Welcome back to the State of the Space! An update on all things Maker, equipment and resources. Let's take a look at what's been happening in July.
If you've yet to check out the space you can book an induction here.
Material Suppliers!
Here I want to highlight one of the places we get our plywood materials for laser cutting, Plyco!
Plyco is a family owned and operated business and have been serving DIY and trade communities for over 18 years. They have a great selection of Laserply that is nicely sized and safe to use with a laser cutter.
The best part.. they have a warehouse in Fairfield just a block over from the Ivanhoe Library and offer free pickup for materials.
If you would like to laser cut with more premium woods than we offer such as Jarrah, Cedar or Bamboo check out their collection here - https://plyco.com.au/pages/laserply-plywood-collection
We are not sponsored by Plyco nor receive any type of incentive , basic materials are available in the Maker Space to use for free.
Maker Space Champions
We are looking for volunteers! If you like to create things, enjoy helping other people learn or want to teach a hobby your passionate about then reach out to us. We want the Maker Space to be community led and have members be active in the space together and Maker Space champions are key to that. Your volunteering might look like;
- Project help and assistance
- Running a repair cafe (helping people fix household objects)
- Hosting Maker Meetups
- Running a workshop on a specific interest
You can read more about volunteering with YPRL and submit an expression of interest here or reach out to me through designmakerspace@yprl.vic.gov.au.
