International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) is fast approaching on 17 May, with Pride Month (1 – 30 June) not far behind.
In recognition and support for IDAHOBIT Day, YPRL invites members from the LGBTQIA+ community who are artists, authors, creators and makers, health
and wellness professionals, educators, etc. to submit an Expression of Interest to host events in 2025 in our library spaces.
We are especially interested in hearing from those who live, work or play in Banyule, Nillumbik, or Whittlesea, but welcome all EOIs. We will select facilitators from the EOIs and schedule their workshops, events, talks, etc. for a date later in the year.
We are open to all types of submissions; here are some examples of events typically held in our libraries to get you thinking!
- Connecting with Creatives: creative facilitators spend the day in a branch (typically 5-6 hours) working on their craft (e.g. illustration, writing, collage) where the public can interact with the creative and ask questions about the work. The day includes hosting a workshop for a target audience (e.g. children, Young Adults, Adults) for 1-2 hours) and creating some drop-in resources for library patrons to take home.
- Writing workshops: poetry, memoir, crime, micro fiction, etc.
- Art & craft: painting, drawing and illustration, collage, ceramics, sewing and knitting, etc.
- DIY/Sustainable practice: gardening and plants, cleaning products, upcycling tips and projects
- Health & wellbeing: meditation and mindfulness, yoga, cooking, journaling
