Developing a lifelong connection with libraries
At YPRL, we recognise the importance of developing a love of reading and lifelong connection with libraries and community resources from an early age. Our Family Fun programming and resources are aimed at creating this connection by making families and young people feel comfortable in our spaces and enthusiastic about all we have to offer.
We offer a range of fun, free and easily accessible activities for the whole family and for kids after school and during the school holidays. Kids Corner is a collection of activities to keep young people's minds and bodies occupied. We've curated the best ideas from museums, art galleries, children's organisations and other helpful places on the Internet so boredom is busted in your home.
YPRL’s Reading Dogs ‘Doggy Tales’ program is aimed at creating a safe environment that builds confidence in reading and communication skills with the family whilst in the company of our volunteer dog teams. This after-school and weekend program is a great way for families to enjoy reading in a calm and welcoming environment.
YPRL encourage a love of libraries and learning with after-school programs, covering STEM subjects and arts and creativity-there is fun and learning for all interests.

Your library card offers you access to our physical collection items, which includes lots of family fun resources such as craft and DIY books, gardening and activities you can complete outdoors, and our family-friendly DVD collection. You also have access to numerous eLearning resources including LOTE online for Kids, where you can explore the magic of books in other languages; and Kanopy Kids, where you can stream movies and television series. Story Box Library is available to access online from our eLibrary and is a fantastic resource for reading and listening to stories together from home. You are able to create your own playlists of stories you might be interested in later and many stories even have an accompanying activity available for download.
